King Midas was so greedy for gold that eventually he was punished by the Greek gods, who granted him his very own wish. Everything that he touched now turned to this most precious metal. So gradually the whole world of his palace turned to a deep rich golden colour. As we follow behind him, at a safe distance, we find all manner of things now turning to gold, ranging from leaves to lanterns and baubles to bells, all touched by gold in its many forms and shades, ranging from embossed to engraved, dusted to thickly coated. This is a very world of golden treasures.
